Golden Mean PlazaGolden Mean Plaza is the main entrance of Ma Wan Park. The design intent is to express the harmony between nature and human’s creation, thus the theme of Golden Ratio is used. Golden Mean Plaza not only has a Golden Ratio’s layout, the theme is carried out by use of many feature designs.
Golden RatioIn nature, the proportion of living organism provided a balance and harmony form of beauty as reference. In mathematics, this is called the Golden Ratio. In the 12th century, Leonardo Fibonacci discovered a simple numerical series that is the foundation for an incredible mathematical relationship behind Golden Ratio. Starting with 0 and 1, each new number in the series is simply the sum of the two before it. 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144,… to infinity. In the series, any number divided by the previous number is approximately 1.618, or if divided by the subsequent number, to be close to 0.618.
Golden Ratio in Nature
In the proportions of the human body, the navel is the best point of golden section. When taking the upper length of the body and divided by the lower length, the closer it gets to 0.618, the more beautiful the proportion is. That is why people think long legs or wearing high heels are beautiful.
The most comfortable room temperature for us is around 22℃~24℃; our metabolism, biological rhythm and mechanics are at best state. Our normal body temperature is 37℃, when multiply by 0.618, it equals to approximately 22℃.
Inside a Nautilus shell, the proportion between the radius of the two circles of tentacles is 1.618.
In some insects group, the proportion of female to male is 1.618.

People think that this Golden Ratio or Golden Numbers are god sent and highly praise about it. Many artists follow the rule of Golden Ratio to create their paintings, sculptures, architecture and even music, due to the fact that it is commonly exist in nature. Since we are long familiar with such proportion that nature gives us, therefore, any artwork following such golden ratio will be aesthetically pleasing.
